Cuisine can be a key determining factor when deciding on a vacation destination. St. Vincent & the Grenadines is filled with creative and exotic flavours, intriguing to culinary enthusiasts. The dishes illustrate the warmth of the people, the vibrance of the culture, and the heritage of the country.

Food

The national dish of St. Vincent & the Grenadines is roasted breadfruit and fried jackfish. This can be found at many local restaurants within the island as well as other well-known foods like callaloo soup, buljols, pelau, stews, and seafood souses. These dishes are also common throughout the Caribbean. Each restaurant is designed to emphasize the atmosphere, to represent the characteristics of the culture and surroundings. Veejay's Restaurant and Bar, Sparrow's Beach Club, and Keegan's Beachside Restaurant are just a few of the popular places for you to dine at for a taste of Caribbean flavour.

Rum 

The locals take pride in the rums produced at St. Vincent Distillers Limited. The line consists of five (5) products, Sprarrow's, Sunset Light Rum (SLR), Sunset Very Strong Rum, Captain Bligh XO, and Sunset Rum Punch.

 

Sunset Very Strong Rum is one of the strongest in the world, with an 84.5% alcohol-by-volume content and has won the award for the world's best overproof rum. This spirit is a true representation of the Vincentian heritage and is recognized throughout the Caribbean

 

The Captain Bligh XO is an eight-year rum, aged in bourbon barrels. Its name originates from Captain William Bligh of the HMS bounty, who brought the breadfruit tree to the shores of St. Vincent in 1793 This distinctive-flavoured rum has won several awards, including the title of the world's best rum in 2014.

The St. Vincent brewery is the manufacturer of the island beer "Hairoun", which stemmed from the word "Hairouna" which was the name given to the country by the Caribs meaning "Land of the Blessed". Their products also include non-alcoholic beverages and mixers such as ginger ale, fruit cocktail, bitter lemon, and kola champagne.
